Censorship in internal magazines? After a very calm summer holiday season, the Belgian Association for Internal Communication resumes its activities and, in particular, its workshops. The first workshop for its members will take place on September 28. On the agenda, a study made by Charlotte Dumont, a student who has tried to find out how editors-in-chief of corporate magazines deal with their bosses re-reading their articles and asking for possible changes. She came to the conclusion that the views of people doing the same job can be very different... A captivating subject for all professionals in internal communication.

Magazine Makeover in DanmarkInge-Margrethe Madsen arranged for consultant Flemming Sørensen to come to the town hall in Høje Tåstrup on Zealand. Flemming's business is to create and develop magazines. Well, it is not just his business – it is a passion for Flemming Sørensen. This guy simply loves magazines, in all their aspects. And he is an inspiring teacher in both journalism, photography and graphic design. A week before the meeting, our members mailed him their publications and intranet content and looked forward to hearing his comments and ideas on how to improve their companies' communication. They were not disappointed. His gusto and inspiration are highly valued. At our website fikom.dk you can see him taking a bath with his bath-tub full of magazines. Flemming Sørensen has visited us before, in Jutland. It was a success then, and it was a success this time, too. After our meeting in Høje Tåstrup, he rushed on to Copenhagen airport. People in Norway were also awaiting his magazine makeover later that night. You can also be inspired just by visiting his homepage www.bladudvikling.dkBladudvikling is Danish for "magazine development". » Further information contact Kenneth Wilson [ kenneth@clips.dk] APCE has an Executive Office An old dream has now come true! Professional accreditation is a core role for the new Institute, along with thought leadership and advocacy for good communication.
The Advanced Diploma is the second element of the IoIC’s two-part qualification and is designed to help communicators deal with the increasing complexity of internal communication practice and growing employer expectations of a significant, and quantifiable, contribution to the achievement of overall business objectives. It continues the IoIC's progress towards a complete suite of industry recognised qualifications for practitioners at all career stages.
The launch follows (…) a highly-successful first year for the IoIC's Foundation Diploma for new entrants to the profession, with the Advanced Diploma setting the standard of proficiency for an experienced internal communication practitioner.
It calls for a greater depth of skills and knowledge than the Foundation Diploma, together with the broad business and organisational understanding expected of a professional aspiring to operate effectively at management level.
Areas covered by the Advanced Diploma include understanding of business issues such as customer relationships, financial reporting and the impact of the economy; organisational culture; interpersonal and presentation skills; planning and delivering internal communication programmes; management of stakeholders, internal/external clients and suppliers; measurement and evaluation.
Senior internal communication practitioners with very broad-ranging experience - public and private sector, in-house and agency - have shown huge support for the benefits offered by the Diploma programme, with 30 signing up to be part of the independent monitoring panel that assesses the students.
Commenting on the addition to the current framework, the IoIC’s education and accreditation director Sheila Parry said: "The Advanced Diploma will ensure that individuals have firm foundations for dealing with today's challenges, and is a key element of our focus on raising practitioner performance levels and the standards of organisational internal communication across the UK."
